There are small corners of the LGBTQ community worldwide that have found out about the Bridge of Light holiday, celebrated each year on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day by lighting candles depicting the values associated with the Rainbow Flag and universal spiritual principles.
If you are lighting the Bridge of Light candles this year, you have my blessing and the well wishes of many people with whom we share a common, positive, uplifting message on this sacred event. We, all of us in every nation and every gender and every sexual identity, are the light of the world! Together in our diversity we are greater than any of us knew in our particularity. And we are committed to becoming fuller vessels of love and friendship and joyfulness in the times ahead.
Let us pray together now for the peace and wonderment we will need to renew the world with our unique gifts. We will bring our distinct gifts out of the closet and out of oppression into the light of day so the light of the world may shine ever onward. We will make ourselves more whole and holy through our attention to the inner life of the spirit as well as save the world from mankind’s failures of empathy and concern for all sentient beings. And we will commit ourselves individually and as members of the worldwide LGBT community to lead the way, not because we’re all that special, but because we know what it feels like not to have our uniqueness valued and respected, so we burn bright with compassion.
The world has never needed the light we have to bring more than it does today. Allah bless you all… (Allah, of course, is the Arabic word meaning God or Spirit, and we honor God in every language from Dios to Dieu to Theos to Olloho to Shén)
Walking with you in the Spirit,
